Are You Bigorexic? Muscle Dysmorphia Expolred - Guest: Kerry Dulin - Competitive Bodybuilder & Author.

Dulin is not only a successful competitive athlete, he's is remarkably honest about his personal experience with Bigorexia. This is an inspiring interview of a different nature. It inspires one to look for a balance in life.

Signs of Bigorexia are discussed as well as the clinical diagnosis. Media and societal pressures, as well as the embellishment of masculinity, create the same unrealistic body ideals for men as do the fashion industry and models for women.

One amazing revelation was that while Dulin felt his own body mass was not big enough, he would look at other athletes who were his height and weight and shared the same degree of muscularity and not see them as being small. Lanore found this fascinating.

One study cited by host Carl Lanore showed that women do not find the degree of muscularity that men strive for appealing. It seems very clear that men who strive to be huge are doing it more for the way other men will react.

Once someone has determined that their pursuit of more muscle has become unhealthy, suggestions of steps to take to develop a realistic ideal body image are also touched upon.
