"The World's First Radio Show Dedicated to Human Performance, Hardcore Strength, Fitness and Nutrition"

You're listening to an episode of Super Human Radio

Category: Strength and Conditioning

Guest: John Sullivan

Sullivan discusses strongman specific training protocols and conditioning strategies which can be applied to many collegiate sports as well as strongman competitions.

John began his strongman training in the summer of 2002.  While initially intending to  compete in powerlifting, the unique challenges of the strongman proved more appealing, especially given his wrestling and martial arts background.  He entered his first contest, the 2002 Massachusetts State Championships, after training for about six weeks.  John competed in the novice division of the 200 lb. weight class and won first place.

Since then, John has qualified for the North American Strongman National Championships three times (2003, 2004, 2005) and has placed in the top five in numerous competitions.

John credits much of his success in strongman to intelligently designed training programs.  His use of diverse techniques, borrowed from Olympic weightlifting, powerlifting and track & field training, has enabled him to effectively prepare for the unusual demands of strongman competitions.
