Ecstacy: A Fast Track To Dementia
| News |
People who use Ecstacy may be giving themselves a fast track to Dementia. The drug has long been associated with memory deficiencies but now a team of scientist may have discovered why. In a recent Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry publication, individuals who used on average of 280 doses of 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine - or MDMA for short - over a 6.5 year period had a significant shrinkage of the hippocampus.
MRI scans revealed that the area of the brain responsible for memory was 10.5% smaller in these individuals than drug users who's drugs of choice were other than MDMA.
This appears to be the first study to attempt to provide evidence of physical changes of the brain due to Ecstacy use. Make a mental note to check back for update.. Avid Ecstacy users should probably write this down as you will probably forget you read this.
